Tutoring in English Language Arts
Mrs. Behrens teaches native English speakers as well as English language learners of all ages the basics of essay writing. Beginning with the all-important brainstorming for the essay, Joan guides students through each step of the process, concluding with the finished, polished essay. Throughout this work, Mrs. Behrens carefully and imaginatively teaches grammar, punctuation, and style, while encouraging the used of advanced English vocabulary.
Guidance for specific student assignments is available on a regular and as-needs basis, utilizing Mrs. Behrens extensive experience with elementary, middle, and high school curriculum. Student projects in all subjects are a specialty of Mrs. Behrens, as she draws upon prior experience and her considerable library of resources.
In addition, students have the opportunity to engage in a scheduled program of challenging higher level vocabulary acquisition, so necessary for college prep courses and superior achievement on the SAT and ACT tests. Strategies for increased reading speed and enhanced reading comprehension are also included.
